Information about our second-hand books
We have a vast collection of second-hand and preloved books in the basement of our shop. It's a treasure trove of rare finds, whether you're in the market for an out-of-print text or simply a great bargain.
Many titles on our site give you the option to buy a new or second-hand copy. Our preloved books come to us from all over, and as such individual books will vary in condition. Some books will be almost as good as new; some will be well-loved and well-worn, and may contain annotations from a previous owner, have bent or foxed pages, or be missing their dust jacket.
The condition will be reflected in the price, and if you would like more information about the condition of a specific book, give us a call and we'll happily give you a description so you can buy with confidence.
Please also note that second-hand copies may be different editions altogether, since publishers routinely update and modernise their texts, change cover art, feature different introductions, and alter layouts. Sometimes a text may even change publisher: for example, the Loeb Classical Library, now published by Harvard University Press, were originally published by Heinemann; the below books, for instance, are both Galen's On The Natural Facilities from the Loeb Classical Library, and both contain exactly the same Greek text with the same parallel translation by A. J. Brock.
