Η ηχώ του κακού (The Echo Man) - Richard Montanari

Φθινόπωρο στη Φιλαδέλφεια. Το κατακρεουργημένο πτώμα ενός άντρα ανακαλύπτεται σε μια από τις φτωχογειτονιές της πόλης. Το θύμα έχει βασανιστεί άγρια μέχρι να πεθάνει. Είναι δουλειά ενός ακραία σαδιστικού μυαλού.

Καθώς οι ντετέκτιβ του Ανθρωποκτονιών Κέβιν Μπερν και Τζέσικα Μπαλζάνο ερευνούν την υπόθεση, καταλαβαίνουν ότι η σκηνή του εγκλήματος που έχουν μπροστά τους σχετίζεται με το παρελθόν. Οχτώ χρόνια πριν, ένα άλλο θύμα βρέθηκε σ' αυτό ακριβώς το σημείο, στην ίδια στάση, έχοντας πεθάνει με τον ίδιο τρόπο. Εκείνο το έγκλημα δεν εξιχνιάστηκε ποτέ. Και με εξαίρεση την παράξενη "υπογραφή" που άφησε ο καινούριος δολοφόνος, οι φωτογραφίες από το τότε και το τώρα είναι ολόιδιες.

Ύστερα ανακαλύπτεται άλλο ένα πτώμα, και μετά κι άλλο... Γίνεται πια τρομακτικά καθαρό ότι κάποιος αναπαράγει άλυτα εγκλήματα από το παρελθόν της Φιλαδέλφειας με τον πιο αρρωστημένο τρόπο. Και ο δολοφόνος είναι πολύ πιο κοντά απ' ό,τι πιστεύουν ο Κέβιν και η Τζέσικα...

Autumn in Philadelphia. The mutilated body of a man is discovered in one of the city's slums. The victim has been brutally tortured to death. It is the work of an extremely sadistic mind.

As Homicide Detectives Kevin Byrne and Jessica Balzano investigate the case, they realize that the crime scene before them is connected to the past. Eight years earlier, another victim was found in this exact spot, in the same position, having died in the same way. That crime was never solved. And with the exception of the strange "signature" left by the new killer, the photos from then and now are identical.

Then another body is discovered, and then another... It becomes terrifyingly clear that someone is recreating unsolved crimes from Philadelphia's past in the sickest way possible. And the killer is much closer than Kevin and Jessica think...
