Σήκω! Το Θεό ζητάς; Να τον! Είναι η πράξη, η γιομάτη σφάλματα, ψαχουλέματα, επιμονή κι αγώνα.

«Θεός είναι όχι η δύναμη που βρήκε την αιώνια ισορροπία, μα η δύναμη που σπάζει αιώνια την κάθε ισορροπία, ζητώντας όλο κι ανώτερη. Μην περιμένεις να γεννήσεις τίποτα μοναχός σου. Θα υψωθείς μόνο παλεύοντας με τους ανθρώπους, ελεώντας, μισώντας τη δύστυχη καρδιά μας. Να ’ρθεις με όλες σου τις αδυναμίες, τις λιποψυχιές και τις χίμαιρες, αλάκερος. Θα καθαρίσεις παλεύοντας. Τι περιμένεις; Ο εχτρός περνάει τα στενά, πατάει τα σπίτια μας και τις καρδιές μας. Κατέβα, διάλεξε κι εσύ το μετερίζι σου και χτύπα. Ο εχτρός είναι ο Θεός με τα ράσα και με το κομποσκοίνι, ο άπλυτος, ανύπαντρος και τεμπέλης!» Το Συμπόσιον είναι ένα έργο που αντικατοπτρίζει τον πνευματικό και φιλοσοφικό κόσμο του Καζαντζάκη, συνδυάζοντας στοιχεία από τον Νίτσε, τον Βούδα, τον Χριστό. The Symposium is a work that reflects Kazantzakis' spiritual and philosophical world, combining elements from Nietzsche, Buddha, Christ.
