Each one opposite a printed b/w photo of marble slabs with inscriptions in Greek & English. Displayed like this and opposite each other in the exhibition that went with this book. Divided into 3 sections, City, Necropolis and Kings. Salamis is an ancient city on the East coast of Cyprus and in the Turkish part of the island. Plant, part English, part Greek Cypriot created this work to recapture that remembered city. Mary Plant is an established and internationally known artist who has created a huge oeuvre over the last 30 years. She is well exhibited in both private and public collections. Graduating with an MA from Chelsea she has continued to tutor, work and exhibit.
Salamis is a major archaeological site in Northern Cyprus, located north of Famagusta, featuring extensive ruins of an ancient Greek city-state believed to be founded around 1100 BC.
