Aeschylus: Prometheus Bound

Aeschylus gave expression to the imagination and ideals that marked his epoch as the Golden Age of Greece. Athens had conquered tyranny and was a flourishing democracy. In this center of politics and culture men engendered concepts of humanity that were to become our everlasting heritage. Through such plays as Prometheus Bound, through the use of myth and legend, the great tragic dramatist illustrated a new vision - a vision of human destiny and divine purpose.
