Arthur Frederick John Reddaway was a British colonial administrator and diplomat who served in the Colonial Administrative Service in Cyprus from 1937 to 1960, rising to the position of Administrative Secretary and advising on political, security, and constitutional matters during the Cyprus Emergency (1955–1960), including key negotiations such as the Harding-Makarios talks and plans leading to Cyprus's independence via the Zurich and London agreements.1 Following Cyprus's independence, he took on international roles, including as Deputy Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) from 1963 until at least 1968, overseeing operations amid regional conflicts.23 Reddaway later authored Burdened with Cyprus: The British Connection (1986), a historical analysis of Britain's diplomatic and administrative ties to the island from the 1878 Cyprus Convention through its 1960 independence and beyond, drawing on his firsthand experience.4 His career highlighted tensions in decolonization processes and refugee aid efforts, with contributions to intercommunal relations in Cyprus—building ties with both Greek and Turkish Cypriots during development planning—amid risks from insurgent activities like EOKA bombings
