College Vergil: Latin Text with Facing Vocabulary and Commentary

This is the 2nd edition of College Vergil, which covers different readings from Vergil's Aeneid than the 1st edition.

This commentary covers (1) all required readings from Vergil’s Aeneid for the College Board’s new Advanced Placement Latin syllabus starting in 2025-26 and (2) an additional selection of “Teacher’s Choice” passages from the Aeneid which meet College Board’s 1350-word verse requirement.

Each of the 52 lessons is two facing pages long. Each odd page includes 11-17 lines of Latin text with all corresponding vocabulary and grammar notes below the Latin on the same page. The corresponding vocabulary contains all words occurring 3 or fewer times, arranged alphabetically in two columns. The grammatical notes are organized according to line numbers and likewise arranged in two columns. On the facing even page there are running high frequency word lists (occurring 4 or more times), and information boxes which include literary, historical, grammatical, and word-building explanations.

To complement the corresponding vocabulary in each lesson, there is (1) a running list of core words occurring 4 or more times in the introduction (almost all are on College Board's 1000-word list) and (2) a separate running list of words occurring 1-3 times which are included on College Board's 1000-word list. Readers who wish to review all words from College Board's 1000-word list in this commentary should review both running lists simultaneously.
