Erotokritos

Erotokritos is a verse romance written about 1600 in Cretan dialect by Vitsentzos Kornaros. Together with othe rpoetic and dramatic works of the 16th and 17th centuries, it belongs to the Cretan-Renaissance period of Modern Greek literature and has had manifold influences on later writers. 

In this first full-length study of the poem in English for more than sixty years, David Holton sets Erotokritos within its literary and historical context and examines in detail its form, content, style and metre. As well as providing a detailed and informative overview, he uses close-up analysis of particular sections of the poem to allow the reader to achieve a more personal evaluation of the work's many qualities.
